Rev John Elgin “Jack” Geddes Passed Away On 27 March 2017

Rev John Elgin “Jack” Geddes, a Canadian missionary serving in Taiwan over 4 decades, died on 27 March 2017. Born in 1930 and becoming a teacher for 2 years after his graduation from college, Rev Geddes was sent to Taiwan as a missionary in 1959 by The Presbyterian Church in Canada. After his retirement as a missionary at 2000, Rev Geddes carried on his service for PCT until 2003. In total, Rev Geddes served Taiwan society for forty-four years.

During his missionary service in Taiwan, Rev Geddes devoted his major ministries in teaching linguistics and history. The church and institutes had been served by Rev Geddes were the Ming-te Presbyterian Church of Taipei Presbytery, Tamkang Senior High School, Christ’s College Taipei, Tamkang University, Taiwan Theological College and Seminary, PCT General Assembly. Being twice awarded the Distinguished Professor at Tamkang University in
1989 and 1994, Rev Geddes also helped to translated The Diaries of George Leslie MacKay.

Rev Geddes married his wife, Mrs “Betty” F. M. Geddes, for 62 years and had three sons and three daughters. Suffered dementia in the past 8 years, though, Rev Geddes was well cared and supported by his families in the nursing home. An funeral service for Rev Geddes was held in Knox Presbyterian Church on 1 April 2017.
