Nan Kang Good119 Church Granted An Automated External Defibrillator For Heart Attack Emergency

Reported by Chiu Kuo-rong

In the middle of May, Nan Kang Good119 Church was offered an Automated External Defibrillator(AED) for an emergent treatment of the patients with a sudden heart attack. Elder Hou Sien-ming, director of Nan Kang Good119 Church and elder of Lien-ho Presbyterian Church of Chi-hsin Presbytery, expressed that in the Good119 church there were about 60 senior homeless citizens who indeed required AED, especially considering the actual demands and medicare necessity for the church and the neighboring communities.

This AED was donated by a Christian enterprise, Klux Co., Ltd, specialized in manufacturing medical equipment. Mr Chen Jhi-kwang, sales agent for Klux company and director of northern district of Taipei branch of The Gideons International, said the average timings for an ambulance to arrive the emergency site is 15 minutes, while the golden timings to resuscitate the heart attack patients is only available within the first 5 minutes. In other words, AED becomes profoundly indispensable to rescue those patients with sudden heart attack or cerebral hypoxia, Chen remarked.

Since fire-fighting equipment have to be set up at public space, in order to comply legal codes and protect human lives, it seems the church and her neighboring communities also should not be spared to install life-saving AED for the needy, said Chen, adding a reminder that the patients of cardiovascular diseases in Taiwan is significantly increasing in recent decades!
