Heavy Coat, Jacket And Trousers Needed For Migrant Sailor And Fishermen In Taiwan

Reported by Lin Wan-ting

To care for migrant seamen and fishermen in their daily operations under winter season, PCT Seamen’s/Fishermen’s Service Center(PCT SFSC)raised a charity event from October 22 to December 12 to collect male winter coat, heavy jacket and long trousers for migrant seamen and fishermen working on Taiwan’s fishing boats.

As northeastern monsoon started to come down across Taiwan, the migrant seamen and fishermen would definitely face more severe weathers and stringent working conditions during their daily works above the deck or in the freezing chamber. In addition, after paying for their basic foods, medicine and rents, the limited petty money that these migrant fishermen owned was hardly able to afford any extra expense of heavy coat or warm clothes to weather the increasing harsh and cold winter on the sea.

So, people are urged to post their old clothes, like heavy coat, jacket and trousers, to PCT SFSC before December 12. Limited by the migrant seamen’s working environments, sweater and shirt are not preferred. In the meantime, underwears, socks or shoes are not suggested. The postal address and contacting information of PCT SFSC are as follows: Rm. 5, 1F., No. 2, Yugang Central 1st Road, Cianjhen District, Kaohsiung City; zip code 80672; telephone number +886-7-8227296; fax number +886-7-8416870; e-mail: sfsc@ms54.hinet.net
