Editorial: Labor of love

Motherly love is common and precious at the same time. Not only do mothers nurture and protect their children’s lives, they also transform “houses” into “homes” and make them special places that hold happy childhood memories.
A mother’s patience enables her to be by her child’s side all the way from infancy to adulthood. Her kindness and faithful prayers restore and heal a wounded heart and makes it strong. Her unwavering faith in God helps us in our temptations. Because of the important role mothers play, God’s will and God’s generous love is displayed for all to see.
Though the Bible uses fatherly figures more often when describing God’s relationship with humans, there are still traces of “mother’s touch” in God’s character that are found in some verses of the Bible. Isaiah said it best in the two following verses: ”Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” (Isaiah 49:15) “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 66:13). From these verses we gather that God is not only our Heavenly Father but also our Heavenly Mother.
Modern society is rapidly changing and the abilities and qualifications of women are increasingly being held with high esteem. It’s increasingly common for women to be blessings and leaders in both the public and the private arena, in both rearing children and professional achievements.
It is our hope that all children will honor their mothers on this Mother’s Day so that the Bible’s promise will come true for them as well; for it is written: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3)
May God bless all Mother’s today and strengthen the work of their hands!
