650 Senior Citizens Celebrate Father’s Day At Taipei Presbytery

Reported by Ho Chia-hen

On August 3, to celebrate Father’s Day, about 650 senior citizens participated the Sunday service and a keynote speech organized by Pine Life(Senior Citizen) Committee of Taipei Presbytery at Mang-kah Presbyterian Church. In the service, Senior Citizen Choir of Taipei Presbytery specially performed two hymns to the audience and received a great applaud and affirmation.

In his sermon, Rev Wang Chong-ren cited the scripture of Luke 15:11-32, the parable of the prodigal and his brother, describing many unique details of a compassionate father. In the same vein, urged Rev Wang, we the ordinary people could get a similar metaphor of God via a close reading of this biblical story and learn how God still waits us, the prodigals in this secular world, with His great patience, generous giving and unlimited mercy.

Rev Wang Der-chen, the just elected chairman of Pine Life Committee of Taipei Presbytery, during his address to these senior citizens, expressed his thanksgiving to Taipei Presbytery for inviting him to join this excellent assembly and enjoy such a wonderful choir performance. He also sang an aboriginal hymn to wish everyone have an excellent Father’s Day.

In his keynote speech, Rev Chen Yih-chih shared the true story how his father became a commissioned evangelist during PCT’s One-Lead-One Double Movement from 1955 to 1965. Inspired by his father’s words, “For the sake of the gospel, I want to serve God with all I have”, Rev Chen finally succeeded his father’s calling as a pastor and kept on proclaiming the gospel to Taiwan society.
