PCT Commemorates Jesus Christ’s Salvation In The Holy Week

Reported by Simon Lin

March 20, a Palm Sunday in PCT’s church calendar of 2016, is the beginning of the Holy Week. Each year PCT’s local congregations will encourage their members to avoid unnecessary events and travels, yet  spend more time to pray, read scriptures and meditate the salvation that Jesus paid for the human being on the cross.

PCT members of Taichung presbytery, about 20 local congregations, hold an united Palm Sunday service at Aofong Hill park at Ching-shwei district on March 20. During his sermon, Rev. Liu Chin-chien urges the assembly to revere the Lord in their minds: the Word of God is not just to be heard, but also be practiced in daily lives.

Rev. Liu indicates that the core of Christian faith is “the Word of God”. So, it is why the longest part of the Presbyterian church’s sunday service is given to pastor’s sermon, because it is the Word of God spoken among them. God not only creates the world through his Word, but also inspire generations of prophets and apostles in spirit to speak out his Word. His Word is even embodied as Jesus Christ coming into the world and crucifying for our sin to become salvation. Till the end of the world, all creations will also be judged by “the Word of God”, said Rev. Liu.

Rev. Liu stresses that the only thing God expects from his people is to hear His Word, and that is why God’s servants are willing to humble down, preach His Word and honor his calling. For obedience to the Word of God with action is better than attending those stereotyped Sunday service without reverence.

As the Word of God will deliver the destitute from desperation, the audience were urged to face the Holy Week with a mind of humbleness, reverence and perseverance to bear the cross with Jesus. And this is the best way to commemorate the resurrection of our Lord and receive God’s blessings in Jesus Christ,  said Rev. Liu.
