An Unprecedented Five Years’ Study Of Taiwan Rural Change After WWII To Be Launched

In order to make Taiwan’s rural sector being able to solve problems for themselves and becoming attractive, competitive and able to forge a sustainable development in current global market, a historical-breaking investigation agreement of rural sector is signed up by both Academia Sinica and the Council of Agriculture under Executive Yuan on September 26.

Recruiting about 200 scholars or experts from various fields of social sciences to proceed a five-year detailed studies, this grand investigation project prepares to deliver a comprehensive documents analysis and a status quo report about Taiwan’s rural sector, including its different dimensions from the points of environment, industry, culture, society, historical change and etc, and build up a grand-scale rural sector data bank and website for the use of future generation in search, analysis and utilization.

Dr James C. Liao, President of Academia Sinica, remarks that due to climate change and recent drastic change in global trade, it becomes more and more urgent to proceed such grand scale investigation of Taiwan’s rural sector.
