The original manuscripts of Rev. Dr. George Leslie MacKay’s diaries, recorded from 1 November 1871 to 10 February 1901, consists of 12 volumes with 7,000 pages. Due to the unique handwriting of Rev. Missionary Louise Gamble, who is responsible for the critical proof-reading of this revised diaries, expressed that the content of MacKay’s diaries was not a record about his personal emotions or feelings, but a detailed descriptions about his evangelical ministry in Taiwan.
