To Help The Needy, Long Island Taiwanese Church Empties Bank Account Into Minus

Reported by Lin Yi-yin

Rev Lin Sek-iong, pastor of Long Island Taiwanese Church(LITC) and the former chairman of Taiwan Christian Church Council of North America, urged Taiwan churches to care for the needs of Yu-Shan Theological College and Seminary(YSTCS) during his visit of PCT General Assembly Office on January 11.

According to a YSTCS audit report on financial donations to her compound building in 2015, the donation of US$ 21,500 from LITC, which had only 40 congregation members around,  was ranked the second just behind New York Taiwan Church(NYTC) which had donated US$ 23,000.

As a matter of fact, the finance of LITC is always very tight to pay their church’s annual recurrent costs, remarked Rev Lin, adding that the congregation is still very willing to donate once the demands of the needy are learned. “Our bank account is not just emptied to zero, but now relegated into a minus number!”, Rev Lin exclaimed in a gratifying joy.

Except giving donation to YSTCS, LITC also participates in the projects of faculty cultivation for two other PCT seminaries, engages in the ministry for those churches without pastors in eastern Taiwan, and donates the homeless ministry at Good119 Center with US$ 1,000 every month.

Noteworthy is that a routine Christmas itinerary visit caring for those US missionaries who had been served in Taiwan was practiced by Rev Lin at the United States in the past six years. He warmly welcomes PCT members or the Taiwanese overseas students to visit LITC or NYTC.
