HK Police Fire Tear Gas, But Taiwan Church Deliver Good-Will Pomelo
Reported by Lin Yi-yin
In the eve of mid-autumn festival, a group of Taiwanese citizens supporting HK people’s No Extradition To China movement gathered at Chi-Nan Presbyterian Church and delivered cartons of Pomelo written with good-will wishes and encouragements to HK citizens still in protests across city.
Showing the support of this significant initiative, staffs in PCT General Assembly Office and members of Suan-Lien Presbyterian Church also sent cartons of pomelo written with best wishes to the Chi-Nan church. It is estimated that over 50 cartons of such good-will pomelo, supplied by PCT’s Amis Presbytery, had been delivered to Hong Kong people.
Rev Huang Tsung-sen, pastor of Chi-Nan Church, stressed that this very fruit “pomelo”(“Yû” pronounced in the Taiwanese)is quite similar to the word of “friend”(“Yú” spoken in the Cantonese), and sending these pomelo to Hong Kong people means Taiwan people’s best wishes and strong support for their resilient fight for freedom, democracy and human rights.
