Staff And Employees Of Kaohsiung City Government Fast And Donate For World Refugee Day

Reported by Chen Yi-fan

On June 19, a 12-hours fast event, organized by Social Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government for World Refugee Day on annual June 20, was held from 9:00 a.m. among 195 city government staff and employees. The purpose of this fast was to let these public servants to experience the food shortages and emotional anxiety faced by the refugee.

In the past six years since 2011, Social Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government had continuously attended the event of “30Hour Famine” convened by World Vision and helped raise many materials and resources to support some domestic and overseas first-aid operations. In this year’s fast event for the world refugees, especially those afflicted children in warfare, famines and poverty around the globe, many staffs and employees of Kaohsiung City Government were encouraged to donate their one-day income as charity.

Mrs Yao Yu-chin, chief of Social Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, expressed that the fast event within staff and employees was only half-day long, though, the long-term vision of such charity action meant to reach more city government units and invite more people to care for those suffering children in poverty and hunger.

On July 15 and 16, in order to speak out for those vulnerable children around the world inflicted by wars, famine, poverty, disease and etc, Taiwan’s World Vision will hold a national charity event of “30Hour Famine” among three major cities to call people reach out to the needy via action.
