Ms Joy Margaret Randall Is Announced Recipient Of Lifetime Of Achievement By PCC’s Presbyterian Woman Of Faith Awards

Reported by Chen Yi-fan

To recognize the work of woman in the Presbyterian Church in Canada(PCC), who should be honored either for faithful service, a specific accomplishment, or a lifetime of achievement, the Presbyterian Woman of Faith Awards was established in 2014. Ms Joy Margaret Randall, who devoted 35 years of medicare ministry from 1969 to 2004 for Taiwan society, was announced as the 2017 award-recipients of a Lifetime of Achievement by PCC.

Born in Ontario of Canada, Ms Randall was raised up in a devotional Christian family, always generously receiving overseas missionaries at house. When Ms Randall was 14-year-old, due to her younger sister’s death in disease, she decided to become a nurse to serve people in foreign countries.

Talking about her initial relationship with Taiwan, Ms Randall reflected that, when she was a little girl, she was always impressed by the overseas missionary’s calling to donate for building the church “for Moses”. Decades later, she realized the concern party behind this donation was “Formosa(Taiwan)”.

In 1969, Ms Randall was sent by PCC to Taiwan. She spent two years to study the Taiwanese language at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary and serve in MacKay Memorial Hospital to learn more about Taiwan’s medicare environment. Ms Randall was invited by Dr David Landsborough IV to serve in Changhua Christian Hospital(CCH) and appointed as director of the nursing department in 1976. She also brought in many innovative medicare techniques for CCH, like setting up Hemodialysis treatment, burning treatment, hospice home care and etc.

In 2000, Ms Randall was awarded as a recipient of medicare contribution for Taiwan society. She was also awarded as an honorary citizenship in Changhua County in 2004. After her retirement in Taiwan and return back to Canada, Ms Randall still devoted herself into the ministries of Women’s Ministry Society and local congregations to witness God’s wonderful calling with blessings. She will receive the Presbyterian Woman of Faith Award at PCC’s National Women’s Gathering on 21 May 2017.
