Hong Kong Student Christians Visit PCT To Learn More About Taiwan

From June 24 to 30, an event entitled as “2017 Summit Christian Meeting of Taiwan and Hong Kong” and organized by PCT’s Youth Ministry Committee was held in Taipei. The participants from Hong Kong were members of Student Christian Movement Hong Kong(SCMHK).

Evangelist Lee Hsin-ren, the would-be secretary of PCT’s Youth Ministry Committee, paid his tribute to SCMHK’s strenuous commitment to Hong Kong society and mentioned especially SCMHK’s superb capability upon discourse – to publish books on social issues – which could be a learning for Taiwan Student Christian Movement.

Mr Chen Ko-ler, secretary executive of SCMHK, remarked in the opening ceremony that in the foreseeable future current frustrated Hong Kong social movement will try to learn more experiences from Taiwan’s social development. “At present our focus is to build up a connection between Hong Kong and Taiwan”, Chen said, adding that Hong Kong could play a positive hub to communicate both north-eastern and south-eastern Asian countries, even though Hong Kong is a small city.

To have a first-hand knowledge about current Taiwan society, members of SCMHK were arranged an in-depth visits to representative people and sites, including Rev Chen Sih-hau(Pastor of Ku-ting Presbyterian Church), Gikon Presbyterian Church(for attending Sunday Service), homeless people and the demonstration against granting another 20-years’ mining extension to Asia Cement. In this one-week event, some experts and professionals were invited to exchange ideas with SCMHK members on various issues of gender, sovereignty and land justice.
