Starting this month, children will be able to enjoy their own kid’s version of Taiwan Church News! In an effort to encourage children to read newspapers from a young age and nurture this good habit, Taiwan Church Press has added a new supplemental section to the current Taiwan Church News.

This section, called “Parent-Child Interactive Newspaper”, consists of 4 pages suitable for children from ages 7-15. The new section is designed to stimulate discussion and meant to be read by adults and children together. The ultimate goal of Taiwan Church Press in starting this ministry is to help parents and Sunday School teachers strengthen children’s faith and also help children mature in wisdom.

For the time being, this interactive newspaper will be published once every 2 months. It will consist of 4 pages, including a news section fit for children’s understanding, a “Letter to Parents” section, an arts section, a story section, and other fun reading material.

The trial edition, which was recently published along with the 3118 edition of the Taiwan Church News, focuses on Christmas themes as the church celebrates Advent. Articles in the trial edition include Do-it-yourself Christmas tree dessert and ideas for Christmas family services.

Taiwan Church News General Editor Rev. Fang Lan-ting said that most who read the hard copy of Taiwan Church News are adults in their 40s and beyond. The electronic “Taiwan Church News Network” that began in January 2011 is mostly read by young adults or adults who rely on browsing the internet to get informed. With this new section, Taiwan Church News hopes to reach out to children and youths.

“Reading newspapers is a way for children to gain wisdom,” said Fang. He believes that parents who spend some time reading the newspaper with their children are also exercising influence on their children. Hence, he urged all churches, Sunday School teachers, and parents to support this new ministry.
