Tsai Administration’s Constitutional Reform Suspected As Empty Words

As there is not any sign of a possible reformation of Taiwan’s constitution six months after Tsai Administration’s sworn into the Presidential Office, some civil groups started to put President Tsai’s promise to launch a constitutional reform during her election campaign into a grave doubt. Either DPP, the ruling party led by Tsai, has changed their stance? Or, the milieu of reformation demand vaporized and existed no more?
On January 20, a seminar, entitled as “Could Tsai’s political promise of constitutional reform be fulfilled through a reactionary nomination of Control Yuan members?”, was held by the renown Taipei Society and hosted by Professor Lin Jia-ho, an associate law professor at National Chen-Chi University.
Lawmaker Hsu Yong-ming of New Power Party complained that, although many available political bills and amendments could be done by DPP to proceed a reasonable constitutional reform compliant to most Taiwan people’s expection in last session of the Legislative Yuan’s assembly, it is beyond Taiwan society’s majority thoughts that DPP just did not dare to do anything to fulfill her promise during the presidential campaign!
