Guitars Donated to Care Migrant Sailors amid Duty Off

Reported by Lin Wan-ting

Considering the migrant sailors are usually short of entertainment during off duty hours on sea, Seamen and Fishermen’s Service Center(SFSC) initiates to collect guitars for 15 offshore ships based at Taiwan harbors.

Rev Chen Woo-chan, director of SFSC, shared the sailors’ of joy and gratitude when 8 guitars are delivered to the migrant sailors on December 30, 2020. Rev Chen remarked that these guitars were not only for the sailors’ recreation, but also to serve as the panacea for their homesick.

SFSC, a front-line marine service institute under PCT Peace Foundation, is committed to serve the sailors and fishermen around Taiwan harbors, now has 600 sailors registered at her facebook website at SFSC@pctsfsc.

The sailors, mainly coming from south-eastern Asian countries like Philippine, Indonesia, Vietnam and etc., usually need material resources and support to help them operate on the sea in the harshly cold winter, especially under a devastating pandemic of covid-19. People are encouraged to donate their extra clothes, used electric equipment, and offerings to their headquarter office located at Kaohsiung City.
