Christian Education Expo Launched to Look Back into the Gospel’s Future

On August 12, the Mission Committee of Payuan Presbytery held a seminar for elders and deacon at the Tjavadran church. Based on the scripture verse of Micah 4:3, the seminar was entitled as "A Faith Community to Respond the World Challenge”. Many renowned guests were invited to deliver speeches, including Rev Ng Pek-ho, director of Academy for Contextual Theologies in Taiwan, Dr Ljavakawa Tjaljimaraw, chief executive officer of Academia Formosana, Legislator Saidhai Tahovecahe. Representatives from the Academia Sinica, the American Institute in Taiwan, and the Taiwan Militia Association also attended the seminar.

Due to the destructive impacts of Typhoon Khanun, which caused serious landslides in Ren-Ai Township of Nantou County, the PCT Church and Society Committee promptly established a first-responder office in the William Shia Memorial Camp, cooperating with NGO groups, like the Sediq Youth Association, Taiwan Jeep Rescue Alliance and etc. On August 7, nine Tayal youths went to the Meishi tribe to clean up the mud from their homes, and other youths from various places carried equipment and tools to offer first-aid relief.

Sunday School Teachers Empowered for the Indigenous Mission’s Next Stop

In order to integrate the aboriginal mother tongues, cultures and indigenous missionary values into indigenous children's Sunday School textbooks and educational resources, so that the children can better understand their own indigenous histories and status quo of ethnic groups, the PCT Indigenous Mission Committee held a training camp, entitled as "Seeds Planted in the Garden – the 2nd Indigenous Sunday School Teacher Training Camp” at the Presbyterian Bible College at Hsinchu on August 27-29.

Life Stories of Dr Chang Chi-lang Exhibited at Tainan

For the first time, the precious cultural archives and photos of Dr Chang Chi-lang, a victim of the 228 massacre in Fenglin Township of Hualien County, were moved from the Fenglin Church of the Eastern Presbytery to the Gallery of the Taiwan Church Press. The exhibition, entitled as "Commemoration of the 36th Anniversary of Martial Laws Lifting in Taiwan—Exhibition of Dr Chang Chi-lang’s Life Story at Tainan" is open for free visits from July 19 to September 19.

The Walo' Church of Tayal Presbytery, located in Nan-Zhuang Township of Miaoli County, is an indigenous church of the Saisiyat people. On July 16, the Walo' Church held a hymnal service of witness and invited the Sinkina Church of Tayal Presbytery from Hsinchu County to praise, worship and witness the living grace from God.

Peace as the Sign of I Love Taiwan Mission in 2023

On July 5th, the "I Love Taiwan Mission" (ILT), hosted by the PCT Youth Ministry Committee, held a three-day pre-assembly meeting at Our Lady of Providence High School in New Taipei City. This theme of 2023 ILT is "Peace", hoping to find peace and strength in the current turbulent times. The ILT has been suspended nearly four years since the covid-19 pandemic erupted.
