July 4, 2010 was a hot day in Kaohsiung with temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius. But the heat didn’t stop 4 churches from celebrating their 40th anniversary with fun games and competitions.

About 319 people from Chien-Kung, Fu-Chang, Wu-Chia, and Chung-Sheng Presbyterian churches gathered at Kaohsiung SeniorVocational Industrial High School to take part in games that challenged their teamwork, intellect, and dexterity. Participants, regardless of age, did their best despite the blazing sun and scorching heat.

According to the convener of these games, Rev. Lu Cheng-tian from Chien-Kung Church, these 4 churches have cooperated closely in recent years in many outreach ministries. Moreover, all of them belonged toShou-Shan Presbytery and were founded in 1970 during the “Church Doubling Movement” that began in 1965.

Commenting on the importance of evangelism and outreach ministries in helping churches grow, Lu urged all Presbyterians to get on board with the “New Doubling Movement” spearheaded by PCT General Assembly. He said fun activities such as this one had attracted many folks to church.

Lu further reported that praise dance programs offered by these churches and a music band started byChien-Kung Church which welcomed members of the community and non-Christian music professionals to join had proven to be effective means for people in the community to hear the gospel. He urged Christians to work as one and focus on things that have eternal value.
